They're Real Life Heroes Too

They may have extraordinary abilities on the hit NBC show, "Heroes", but several of the cast members (if not all), are involved in charitable work and other noble pursuits. Hayden Panettiere was in Taiji, Japan this past week, trying to help stop fishermen from slaughtering dolphins. Hayden was part of dozens of activists who paddled their way on surfboards into a cove and attempted to block fishermen's attempts. Despite their tries, hundreds of dolphins were slaughtered.

From nbc10.com:

"There was one point when they were literally spy-hopping, which is when they jump out of the water and stick their heads up out of the water and they can look around," Panettiere said. "Then this baby stuck its head out and kind of looked at us, and the thought that the baby is no longer with us is very difficult." (Full story here)

Hayden's co-star, Masi Oka, who ironically is the Japanese worker capable of teleportation, is also a hero this past week. Oka was named as a spokesperson to promote "One Laptop per Child" (OLPC) through TV advertisements and other media. The project is aimed at "empowering children with learning tools and connectivity", definitely a noble cause. Masi Oka is a former computer science and math major.

Greg Grunberg who plays mind reading cop, Matt Parkman, also works to set up events and raise funds for Pediatric Epilepsy Project. The charity also has stars such as Courtney Cox, Leonardo DiCaprio and James Denton involved.
