Heroes Reborn: Season 5 Coming to NBC for 2015 (Video)

Those who thought "Heroes" was dead on NBC, it appears that next year will be the year of "Heroes Reborn." The new Heroes Reborn show will be a 13-episode miniseries from original show creator Tim Kring. Unfortunately for diehard fans of the original show, there's a bit of a wait, as the show won't be released until 2015. A teaser video for the upcoming show aired during NBC's Olympics and now has fans of the original series buzzing on the internet.

Here's a look at that "Heroes Reborn" teaser trailer video from NBC:

NBC's hit show "Heroes" first started back in Sept. 2006 and ran through Feb. 2010 finishing after four seasons. The show, as covered on this weblog, focused on everyday citizens who came to discover they had unique powers. Among the popular characters on the show were Peter Petrelli, Hiro, Claire Bennet, Noah Bennet aka "HRG", Sylar, Ando, Mohinder Suresh and Matt Parkman. Many of the actors involved, notably Hayden Panettierre and Zachary Quinto, have been involved in major shows or movies (i.e. "Nashville" on ABC and "Star Trek" reboot movies).

One has to wonder if Tim Kring decided to bring this show in due to the seeming popularity of "Marvels Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." on ABC and all of the superhero movies and news of new shows like "Gotham." It seems the idea of superheros never seems to grow old, and now has a chance to be reborn from Tim Kring.

A few other points that many have mentioned:

  • It's unknown if the original cast members will be a part of the show, but they haven't ruled out original characters "popping in" for an episode or a few.

  • There will be a digital series online to help introduce the new characters and stories ahead of the miniseries.

More info is available at the official Heroes website. What do you think of the idea of "Heroes Reborn"? Excited, or has the hype fizzled with the last season of "Heroes"?

Heroes Volume 5 - Redemption 9/21/09 Sneak Peak

nbc heroes volume 5 redemption
(Ready for some Heroes Redemption?)

Volume Five of Heroes could be a major improvement on the previous episodes seen last season during "Fugitives". This upcoming volume which kicks off Monday, September 21st, 2009 is entitled "Redemption". It follows the various characters as they look to re-adjust back to normal living, now that they are no longer being hunted. There will be a storyline involving a new band of characters who are part of a carnival, looking for redemption and vengeance, as well as others like them to join their cause.

Volume 5 Heroes Redemption also sees the return of Tracy Strauss (Ali Larter), the "Ice Queen" as she seeks vengeance against the people who tried to kill her. Additionally, there will be the story of Claire (Hayden Pannettiere) wanting a "normal life" (ok not so new), and Nathan/Sylar trying to figure out who he is exactly. Angela Petrelli, HRG, Matt Parkman, Hiro, Ando and from the looks of the preview, Danko, all make returns for the new season. The first Volume 5 Heroes episode on NBC 9/21/09 will be a special 2-hour season premiere.

There's a great four minute sneak preview of Heroes Volume Five here at NBC.com.

There's also another promo clip here for Redemption which claims Heroes will be "back at its best". Let's hope so as the previews definitely looked intriguing and like this season may have strong potential for a return to form...

Latest on Heroes Redemption from Comic-Con 2009

According to Comic-Con 2009's glimpse at the upcoming installment of Heroes, "Redemption", fans are still hanging tight with the series. In this next part of the show which picks up where "Fugitives" left off, we'll see the heroes going back to their ordinary lives. There's a carnival where workers are really heroes in hiding, and also some insight into a few of the new cast members.

From USA Today:

The new volume includes new people with abilities, hiding in plain sight by working at a carnival. New cast members include Prison Break's Robert Knepper, whose character is an earthmover, and Ray Park, whose character has super speed.

Kring said there will be fewer stories per episode this season, with the goal of "going deeper, not wider." And Claire (Hayden Panettiere) will be headed to college, where she makes friends with another student (Madeline Zima). "I think you guys are going to like us together," Panettiere said, before cooling down the crowd. "Not in that way."

Comic-Con 2009 in San Diego, CA, also featured an anticipated look at Tron Legacy, a movie 27 years in the making, the hot Iron Man 2, starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Scarlett Johansson, and of course Twilight's sequel "New Moon" which will feature heartthrob Robert Pattinson. As for other television shows, the convention had discussions and sneak peak material for 24, Lost and True Blood, HBO's original series about vampires.

Heroes Volume 4 Returns 2/2/09

The next installment of NBC's Heroes Volume 4, "Fugitives", is set to return the night after the Super Bowl, February 2nd, 2009 at it's regular time slot. An advertisement aired during last night's WWE Raw on USA, and ads have been seen on NBC as well. In the ad various quick shots were seen of Heroes in distress, or HRG telling someone to get in if they want to live (possibly Suresh). In conjunction with the Superbowl on Sunday, there will be an interesting commercial aired on NBC featuring the Heroes in a touch football game.

The Volume 4 plot will revolve around the Heroes following the explosions and fires that burned down Pinehearst and Primatech at the end of Volume 3 "Villains". Hiro who is now powerless will attempt to train Ando to be a superhero. Matt and Daphne will look to live a normal life as a couple. Suresh will return to his taxi driver job in NYC, while Peter Petrelli will be fully-powered, looking for action again.

There's also several sneak preview clips online of Episode 14 which will be entitled "Clear and Present Danger". The four new clips show Claire calling Peter to warn him of Nathan and Angela Petrelli's plans to take people with abilities in, Peter getting into a taxi cab driven by Suresh, Claire showing up at Matt Parkman's place where she finds out his new power, and Peter confronting Nathan about his plans.

Hayden Panettiere & Maxim's Sexiest of 2009

hayden panettiere

The January 2009 issue of Maxim magazine features a look at "Young Hot Hollywood 2009". Featured in the article are Scarlett Johansson, star of the upcoming movie "The Spirit", musician Rihanna, reality TV star Audrina Partridge, and the dearly beloved Claire bear, Miss Hayden Panettiere.

Maxim writes the following about Panettiere:

There's a reason that God made cheerleader outfits, and you're looking at her. No not the counter girl you're buying this issue from. We're talking about Hayden Panettiere. Born to be a star, she nabbed her first gig in a Playskool commercial when she was 11 months old. Since then she has blossomed into the sexiest thing on NBC since Joey. But the idiot box cannot contain this feisty sexpot. She's got three movies heading your way including I Love You Beth Cooper, in which she plays the hottest girl in school. Now, there's a stretch.

Congratulations to Hayden on this recent, accomplishment? Fans will definitely be looking forward to even more of the sexy cheerleader when Heroes Volume 4: Fugitives starts up in 2009!

Season 3 Criticism Continues

Is Heroes in jeopardy of being vaporized much like Matt Parkman's dad, or the villain we saw commit suicide by jumping into his own vortex? We're deep into Season 3 of Heroes, the Villains installment with more and more fans jumping ship or at least harshly criticizing the "revival season". Last season was considered a disaster by many, and creator Tim Kring promised he had addressed all the flaws of that season for Season 3. Unfortunately, two of the show's co-exectuive producers were fired, Jeph Loeb and Jesse Alexander. They also served as senior writers, overseeing much of the script development. Luckily, writers are into episode 20 of the 25 episode season, so time will tell how much of an effect the firings have.

Read more about Heroes losing ratings and writers at NY Times.

I've found Season 3 compelling at times, but again they tend to cram a lot into a little frame of time. They've also made up some quick relationships by jumping back in time. For example, we have now seen that Elle and Sylar shared a brief romantic glimmer of hope. It ultimately may have been what snapped Gabriel Gray into his murderous mind state of Sylar. We also learned that Flint is Meredith's brother, and that The Company tricked him. Meredith also believed she lost her daughter Claire (invinvible cheerleader) to a blazing fire, but we all know later this is not so. We still need to learn the particulars of Claire being given to HRG, and also how Mrs. Petrelli hooked up with Hiro's father.

Right now, the biggest issue may be that Arthur Petrelli just simply zaps people of their powers or annihilates them. Yes, it makes for a great type of villain as seen in comic books, but makes the show ackward, because of the storyline. Hiro spent a large amount of time dreaming of the past so he could warn others, only for Arthur to come forth and perhaps wipe out his memory? If that's so, why did Arthur not just execute Hiro like he did to the precog? It was revealed earlier in the season that Hiro is the key to stopping all this madness, but now he looks like a mindless accomplice. However, one would have to believe the true key to stopping Arthur is now The Haitian. We saw him in the last episode coming into play as he stood in the dining room behind Arthur, blocking his power of suggestion towards wife Angela. So why wouldn't Haitian be necessary to stopping the ultimate evil-doer? He's been able to block Sylar, Hiro, Peter, Matt Parkman, basically everyone with a power.

The only other answer right now is Sylar, but we are unsure if he's truly good or bad to the core. He may have gotten close to his "dear ol' dad" but will he have what it takes to turn the tides and stop the destructive force?

Next Episode of Heroes 11/10

Due to NBC's political coverage and Saturday Night Live's political parody party that aired Monday night (Election eve), Heroes took a week off. Here's the synopsis of what to expect next week on the show:

From NBC.com Heroes Site:

THE ROOTS OF EVIL ARE NOT ALWAYS WHAT THEY SEEM: ARTHUR PETRELLI, FLINT, AND SYLAR REVEAL THEIR DARK ORIGINS.

In a prelude to the coming confrontation, Hiro (Masi Oka) traces respected businessman, husband and father Arthur Petrelli (guest star Robert Forster) back to the days before he "died" -- to discover what drove him to create rival company Pinehearst and strike at Angela (Cristine Rose). His journey reveals a critical moment when Sylar (Zachary Quinto), horrified and guilt-ridden, might have stopped his murderous pursuit of abilities - that is, if H.R.G. (Jack Coleman) and Elle (guest star Kristen Bell) had been swayed from their monstrous assignment. Finally, under the wing of Company man Thompson (guest star Eric Roberts), agent-in-training Meredith (guest star Jessalyn Gelsig) watches her new life go up in smoke, following the arrival of her hot-headed brother.

Greg Grunberg, James Kyson Lee, Ali Larter, Hayden Panettiere, Adrian Pasdar, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Dania Ramirez and Milo Ventimiglia also star. Jimmy Jean-Louis, Malcolm McDowell, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Ron Perkins, Blake Shields, and Jeff Staron guest star.

Heroes resumes with Season 3 Villains next Monday 11/10/08 at 9 PM EST!

Heroes Back to iTunes & Stars Speak

As fans brace themselves for Heroes Season 3, several of the major players for the show have been doing their part to promote. Recently Heroes Creator Tim Kring and one of its stars, Zachary Quinto (Sylar) sat down with The Deadbolt in a revealing interview. Topics touched upon were Sylar's presence for Season 3, the concept of dysfunctional families, and lingering questions in the Heroes world.

Tim Kring on how questions will be answered:

"Some of those questions will linger a little bit. But, actually, by the end of the third hour of the show you have kind of mosted those. I mean one of the goals of this season was, because we had been off the air for - we'll have been off the air for nine months - we didn’t want to drag a lot of story behind us. We didn’t want to feel like you had to have watched two years of this show to catch up. So we wanted to answer things really quickly so that you could move forward on this volume and have a kind of clean path in front of you. So there really are not a lot of lingering questions that you carry with you from before. The goal for us, from now on with these volumes, is to try and answer literally ninety five percent of the questions that are posed in the beginning of the volume [that] will be answered by the end of the volume. This particular volume, 'Villains', is thirteen episodes long."

Read the full interview at The Deadbolt.

Milo Ventimiglia also sat down with canmag.com to discuss Heroes Season 3. In his interview, Ventimiglia sort of kicks around the same idea that Kring does, saying there's a good and bad side to each of them. Also the interview discusses the reunion of the brothers Petrelli, and a discussion of the death of characters.

Ventimiglia says:

"Villains" seems to promise more screen time for the likes of Sylar, but Ventimiglia also reminded fans that it could reveal some new sides to other characters. "I think there's definitely a light and dark side to everybody. It just depends on what kind of situation we find ourselves in to bring that out. So we're walking in shadow or walking through the light."

In another note regarding the upcoming season (which starts 9.22), iTunes has re-aligned itself with NBC to add Heroes into its downloadable TV show content. In addition to Heroes, other NBC shows such as The Office, 30 Rock and Monk. Also, High-Def programs will be offered at the iTunes store, in conjunction with a brand new release of the Apple iTunes software, which debuted this past Tuesday.

Meet the Newest & Fastest Hero!

The Marshall News Messenger of Texas has a recent writeup about actress Brea Greant, the newest addition to the NBC Heroes Cast. The 26 year-old Brea will be playing the role of "Daphne", a girl who has the power of superhuman speed. According to the article it looks like her character will cross paths with Hiro and his sidekick Ando, and is Hiro's arch nemesis due to his ability to stop time.

From Marshall News Messenger:

In the series, Daphne's superpower allows her to operate at three speeds, according to an Associated Press article. Character Hiro, who has the ability to stop time, is her arch nemesis.

In a recent phone interview with The News Messenger, Ms. Grant termed her character as "super fast" and one who uses "her power for evil." She said, though, she expects her character to shift toward the "grey area of good and evil" as the series moves forward, adding "there are some changes in store for Daphne."

"In many ways she's a bad guy. So she steals a lot of stuff for profit. And because she's so fast, she can get away with all of it," she said.

Ms. Grant said a challenge, while pursing other roles outside of the show, was switching in and out of her speedy character. She said other producers would often advise her to slow the pace of her speech.

"I talked really fast," Ms. Grant said of her experiences on other auditions while still trying to seize a role on "Heroes." "Because, Daphne's power is speed and (producers) kept telling me to slow down in all my auditions so that was pretty annoying."

Ms. Grant said, so far, she's filmed one episode of the program's third season. But she declined to disclose any additional details from fear of giving away information on sub-plots and secrets.

Read the rest of the article about Brea Grant & Heroes here.

Heroes Season 3 "Villains" is set for a September 22nd premiere on NBC, starting with a 1 hour recap show, and a 2 hour season premiere following right after.

New Season 3 Heroes - Brea Grant

TV Guide has reported one of the new cast members for Heroes Season 3 ("Villains") will be Brea Grant. The blonde Brea recently appeared on the NBC show Friday Night Lights. Brea will play the role of "Joy", a girl who's "quick on her feet" and "easily gets herself into and out of trouble". Joy will be similar to comic book legend "The Flash" as she will have the power of super speed. And if Peter meets her so will he. Sylar, of course will have to catch up with her in order to eat those brains and become a sprinter as well.

The question is will Heroes really use the special effects to display her speed power? Or will they use the concept of "first you see her at Point A, now she's at Point B, all of a sudden"? Let's hope the effects are done well!

Some of Brea's other work includes movies like Trance, Middle of Nowhere and Smooch.

See more about the newest Hero at Brea Grant's official website here.

How to Kill Time Before Heroes Season 3

The 3rd season of Heroes continues to create anticipation in fans, while there is continued speculation that a SAG strike may put this season to an abrupt end or on hold. While fans wait for the return of Season 3, they can still go to various websites online that connect to the Heroes show. A recent article at Fast Company examines all of the cool online offerings for the show.

Included in these various sites are:

Primatech Paper Site,
Corinthian Casino & Hotel,
Yamagato Fellowship,
Activating Evolution and a
Create Your Hero (by Sprint)
Heroes Trivia Contest (by Sprint).

Many of these sites are fully interactive, allowing fans a very unique web-based experience that connects them to the hit NBC series and its various characters. Several of the offerings deal with deceased characters or those no longer seen on the show, such as Hanna "Wireless" and Mr. Linderman, the mob boss who was killed by DL Hawkins on Season 1. One such offering allows fans to receive text messages from Primatech as if they were agents working for "The Company". Are you on the list?

Heroes Season 3 Starts 9/15/08!

Finally, a confirmed date has been given for Heroes Season 3. The third season of NBC Heroes will be called "Villains" and returns in about 5 months time, on September 15, 2008. It will start at 8pm with a show featuring clips (probably to refresh viewers' memories). A 2 hour premiere episode will follow at its regular 9PM EST time slot.

Scifi.com had the following report:

NBC's returning genre shows--Heroes, Chuck and Medium--will each air a full complement of original episodes next season, in contrast to this year's strike-truncated season, with Heroes and Chuck set to air without repeats through December.

The announcements came at the network's presentation to advertisers in New York on April 2.

"We not only have the biggest star of TV, we have movie stars on NBC," Ben Silverman, co-chairman of NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios, said during the presentation. "The talent on NBC are the breakout talent and the cultural, relevant, leading icons of all of television. It's a hallmark of what we do, and as you'll see, ... all of your favorites are coming back."

Heroes will return to the schedule on Sept. 15 with an hourlong clip show premiering at 8 p.m. ET/PT and a two-hour season premiere airing at 9 p.m., its regular timeslot.

SAG to Kill Heroes?

Heroes fans were cut short this past second season of the hit show, when the series ended early, thanks to a writer's strike. Now there's been rumors hinting at a possible Screen Actors Guild (SAG) strike which could once again kill the show. According to a Syfyportal.com article, Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohinder Suresh) said the possibility is there, but he's hopeful the show will go on.

From Syfyportal.com:

"Hopefully producers and SAG will get together and sort something out," he told fans at the event. "My last scene [on 'Heroes'] was filmed on Oct. 23 so I'm hoping we'll get something together cause I'd really like to get back to work."

During the strike, projects were few and far between for Ramamurthy, but he was able to pass the time through sports.

"My tennis game got really good. I was playing all the time," he joked. "Things have to be changed on the way writers and actors are paid. And hopefully something will be done otherwise you might loose the show again for a while."

At the moment, SAG has about 120,000 members with the Federation of Television and Radio Artists following suit with approximately 70,000. About 40,000 actors also have dual membership.
(Source: Syfyportal.com)

Keep your fingers crossed fans that we head into Season 3, "Villains" where the only killing will be from Sylar and his band of new bad guys, not a SAG strike.

Heroes Bits & Pieces

Fans are still anxiously awaiting Season 3 of NBC Heroes, which won't arrive until Fall 08'. Meanwhile, NBC is offering free TV shows via its website, including Heroes. A Seattle Times recent commentary piece discusses the many ways to watch TV these days. With Heroes and other shows you've been able to buy from iTunes (not anymore for Heroes), rent the DVD's from Netflix, and now watch completely free if you enjoy hi speed internet. Hulu.com is another site which is brand new to the field and offers Fox/NBC shows with ads running on them.

Is Bell Gone from Heroes?

According to the TV Squad, NBC's Heroes will begin filming again this coming June, possibly even May. However, TV Guide's Michael Ausiello is reporting that sexy Heroes star Kristen Bell isn't signed for the new season yet.

A TV Squad author discusses Bell's character's importance:

I see her either coming over to the side of the good guys (if she signs a long-term contract) or completely going crazy because of the way her father has been treating her and trying to destroy everyone and eventually dying in a really dramatic way.

Bell turned down the role of Charlotte on Lost to take the Heroes gig.

I would be surprised if Bell doesn't return because she was shown in an early preview for Season 3 Villains, and it appeared she was caught by Sylar. Of course, it wouldn't be out of possibility for the show to find a way to write her off if a contract isn't worked out.

Halo - Not Just a Video Game

Ultimate superhero Milo and sexy cheerleader Hayden are still together and out dating while they get ready to resume Heroes season 3. The website Fashion ie gossip reported the duo was recently spotted out on a romantic date in Beverly Hills. The couple has also been dubbed "Halo", a combination of Hayden + Milo.

From Fashion.ie:

Who said chivalry was dead? This handsome gent was spotted gallantly opening a car door for the love of his life, Hayden Panettiere, during a sexy night out…
Hayden and Milo Ventimiglia, fortunately, are no longer dating on the sly. The cute Heroes duo dressed up for a hot date in Beverly Hills over the weekend at a special affair honoring their hit NBC sci-fi show. See below …

Halo kept it classic - her in a red strapless gown, him in a midnight blue tuxedo - and solidified its place among the hottest celebrity couples.
Sadly, Heroes won’t return with new episodes until the fall. Fortunately, that gives Milo and Hayden plenty of free nights to get. It. On. Go Halo! (SOURCE)

Some fans and other celebrity watchers seem to have problems with the age difference, but let the two do their thing. After all, this is Hollywood where Demi Moore dates a much younger Ashton Kucher and guys like Bruce Willis, Jerry Seinfeld and Woody Allen have dated much younger women.

Heroes Season 3, Coming in Fall 08'

Rejoice Heroes fans, the writers strike is finally over as of a few days ago! However, Heroes will not be returning for several more months. According to Movieweb.com:

Fans of Heroes have hoped that, with the WGA strike coming to an end, that we might see more of NBC's hit series on television this year. Unfortunately, Ain't It Cool News spoke to Hayden Panettiere, who plays the cheerleader Claire Bennett on the show, and she says that it won't be happening.

According to Panettiere, even though the strike is finished, Heroes is done for this season, with new shooting beginning in April. It is expected that Heroes Season Three will air in the fall of 2008. (SOURCE)

So the wait for "Villains" continues and will build speculation and excitement for a third run of the show. While you're waiting, head over to NBC's Heroes site to check out some of the interactive content based on the show.

There's also NBC's newest addition, Knight Rider, a remake of the original David Hasselhoff series, which will have a 2 hour movie this Sunday night.

Heroes TV to meet Heroes Online

According to website io9.com, Heroes the TV show and Heroes Evolutions, the web-based series, will begin to crossover into each other more often for Heroes Season 3, Villains. Tolerico who is project manager for the Evolutions portion of the NBC Heroes website offers the following about the online Heroes content:
Masi Oka writes and creates all of the Hiro blog entries himself. I put together the Drucker postcard code and our lead designer (Markus Hagen) created the artwork and flash file. The games and riddles for Heroes Evolutions are developed by our in-house team and the Heroes Transmedia team working together with the show writers to help guide us and keep us within the show's mythology... We miss our show writers and hope the strike is settled soon. We are working to develop pieces that are interesting to the fans, but with no new episodes these are different stories. Fortunately the tapestry of Heroes provides us with many different places to "play."

Tolerico says we will see more plot crossovers between Evolutions and Villains with this coming season. So it could become a very interesting new viral marketing campaign and experience for fans.

See the full story here at io9.com.

Also according to io9.com about Season 3 of Heroes:

"Heroes volume 3 will be less about the Company, and we'll know right away what giant disaster the good guys are racing to prevent. It'll be something to do with things we already know about."
