Season 3: Episode 8: "Villains"

nbc heroes season 3 episode 308 villains

Recap of Heroes Episode 308: "Villains"

Heroes opens with a montage of scenes showing Sylar meeting with Suresh's father, Claire meeting her real mother Meredith and finally Hiro in Africa taking his spirit walk journey. Suresh narrates questioning why some become so evil while others don't stray. As we see Africa, Hiro passes out from what the precog, Usutu, gave him to eat. Hiro's eyes become glossed over in complete white, and next Hiro is dreaming of the past at an elegant dinner party celebration with the Petrelli family featured.

Arthur Petrelli is toasting Nathan as the finest assistant DA around, Peter as a compassionate soul, and his wife Angela as the love of his life. Mr. Linderman comes up to shake Nathan's hand and asks if he's going to investigate all things Linderman. Nathan jokes with him about handcuffs/jail, and Linderman goes over to talk to Arthur. Arthur begins searching in Nathan's mind and tells Linderman he sees trouble. Linderman says if Nathan investigates him he'll see Arthur's hand in various operations they worked on. Arthur says if worst comes to worst they kill Nathan.

In Memphis, Tennessee (1 year ago), Meredith is with her brother, Flint, who can cast plasma charges from his hands. The two are inside a convenience store, robbing it. One man doesn't heed Flint's warning to get to the floor. The man turns to reveal he is the head agent, Thompson, from The Company. He sprays Flint with a type of extinguishing substance, preventing him from shooting plasma. Meredith blasts fire in the Thompson's direction, and Flint takes off running. Thompson avoids the flames, then points a stun gun at Meredith and she raises her hands in surrender.

In Brooklyn, NY, also one year ago, we see Gabriel Gray in a clock repair shop. Gabriel is having a flashback of killing a man to steal his power of telekinesis (from season 1). Gabriel prepares a noose to hang himself and gets up on a chair, adjusting the noose around his neck from the ceiling. As he drops to hang himself, Elle enters the shop. Elle hears something from the backroom and goes in to check. She sees Gabriel hanging and blasts lightning at the noose to cause it to break. Gabriel drops to the floor, and as Elle checks on him he tells her to forgive him.

Gabriel tells Elle he's done terrible things and doesn't deserve to live. Elle says he deserves a second chance since she broke the rope for him. Gabriel calls Elle an angel, and Elle asks him to fix her watch. Elle leaves the shop to go to a white van. In the back is HRG (Mr. Bennet). Elle and HRG discuss how to capture Sylar. HRG tells Elle to use pie.

Company agent Thompson interrogates Meredith in a cell room. The agent asks Meredith to join them as a new agent or spend her life in an asbestos-lined cell. She agrees to join, but asks that they don't go after her brother. The agent makes no promises to her.

Angela Petrelli asks Arthur to come to Peter's graduation, but Arthur refuses, unhappy with Peter's career choice of nurse. Nathan stops by, and Arthur asks Nathan to assign another DA to the Linderman case. Nathan refuses to do so. Next scene is Nathan and his wife driving in their car on the highway. An SUV comes up behind their car, ramming it. Nathan is able to fly up above the car all of a sudden as the car crashes into a barrier. Next, we see the scene at the hospital as Nathan is checking on his injured wife. Arthur and Angela show up, and Nathan angrily yells at his father saying Linderman was responsible for this. Nathan asks his father to decide "client or family".

Angela and Arthur are back home, with Angela saying how Nathan's wife's spine is broken and things don't look good. Angela confronted Arthur and asked if he ordered Linderman to kill Nathan. Arthur tells Angela "No".

In Austin, Texas one year ago, Meredith and Thompson go to take down a villain. Thompson pretends he's an agent with the Veteran's association, and the man becomes suspicious saying another man visited last week for the same thing. All of a sudden, the man's hand turns to metal and he clocks Thompson in the head. Thompson falls to the ground, but Meredith shoots a flame at the man's arm. He screams out from the pain and Meredith takes out Thompson's stun gun and subdues the man. Thompson sits up and welcomes Meredith to the Company.

In Queens, NY, HRG is running surveilance on Gabriel Gray. Elle shows up with a pie, and tells Gabriel she's been thinking about him and how he's been. Gabriel told Elle he's better and just cleaning up. Elle sees a list of names Gabriel has, and he lies saying they're friends. Gabriel reveals to Elle he has a special ability, then shows her his ability to move objects with telekinesis. Gabriel says there's more people like him with abilities, then goes to have some pie. Elle retrieves the list of names Sylar tossed out.

Thompson says once they see Meredith is loyal, they'll call him agent Gordon. Thompson tells Meredith to bring the villain they captured to cell 9. As she does, someone yells out for her and she sees her brother Flint in a cell. Flint tells her an invisible man tackled him out in the alley. Flint says he was told he gets to be an agent with her. Thompson enters asking if there's a problem, and Meredith says no problem, but is upset her brother was lied to.

Elle and Gabriel enjoy pie together at his apartment. Elle asks how many are like him, and Gabriel says he doesn't know. Gabriel discusses his hunger, how he covets the power of others. Gabriel says thanks to Elle he knows maybe he doesn't have to be so special. Elle continues to seduce him and tells Gabriel he's special the way he is. Elle leaves the apartment and talks to HRG about not going after Gabriel, saying maybe his suicide attempt was a wake up call. HRG tells her she needs to witness Gabriel in the act of killing and suggests they introduce Gabriel to a name off the list Elle retrieved.

Arthur Petrelli meets with Linderman. Linderman suggests he flies in one of his best hitmen from Vegas. Just then, Angela arrives home and overhears their plans. She rushes upstairs upset and Arthur follows. Angela pulls out a large knife to keep Arthur back. Arthur begins to use his suggestive mind powers saying "Nathan has to die, it has to be done". Angela eventually repeats the phrase "Nathan has to die" herself, converted by Arthur's suggestions.

We see Hiro again with Ando and Usutu in modern day Africa. Hiro is exclaiming out "Murder!" Ando tries to wake him but Usutu tells him Hiro's spirit walk is not complete. They prepare a mixture to give off fumes to snap Hiro out of the dream state. Hiro collapses back and we flash back to the past with The Company.

Meredith attempts to break Flint out of his cell at The Company. She reveals to Flint that the Company was tricking him into thinking they would make him an agent. The two board a train together, taking off for the border. As Meredith's talking all of a sudden she's hit by a stun gun, and Thompson's there. Flint yells out thinking Thompson killed her. Flint rushes off to hide behind some cargo in their train car. Thompson chases him, and as Meredith yells out she warns Flint to watch out. Flint's able to open the train car door and jump out. Thompson yells at Meredith for betraying the Company. The two struggle, with Meredith eventually getting free and setting flames on the cargo. She and Thompson both jump from the moving train car as an explosion occurs.

Linderman pays a visit to Angela Petrelli. Linderman tells Angela he still has an ounce of morality and can't stand by while Arthur destroys her. Linderman says Arthur has scarred her mind with his suggestions. Linderman says Arthur has betrayed her in the worst way possible, planning to kill her son. Linderman says he can heal her scars and help her see the truth. Linderman places his hands on Angela's head and helps her regain her memories. She cries out for Nathan.

Thompson is escorting a captured Meredith in handcuffs near a fiery scene. Meredith tells Thompson why she hates the Company, because during a scuffle, her daughter Claire was killed in a fire. Thompson shakes his head remarking that's what they told her. He cuts the bindings on Meredith's hands and tells her its a get out of jail free card. Next we see Claire the cheerleader running inside the fiery scene, going to rescue a trapped man.

Elle and Gabriel Gray enjoy a dinner date with baked Ziti. A knock comes at the door, and Elle tells Gabriel she invited someone over. A man comes in and Elle introduces him as Trevor to Gabriel. Elle tells Gabriel he has an ability too, and she wants Gabriel to meet others like him. Trevor reveals his power to shoot things with his hand as a gun. Elle asks Gabriel "isn't that special?" and Gabriel is in disbelief. Elle leaves the room saying she has to get something. HRG is seen in the surveillance van grinning.

Angela has dinner with Arthur. As the two are talking, all of a sudden a figure is seen standing behind Arthur. It's the Haitian, and he's able to block Arthur's power of mind suggestion. Angela asks Arthur if he still knows her. He says she's his wife. Angela asks him to reveal if she's going to kiss him or kill him.

Elle plays it up that she's overly impressed by Trevor's power. Gabriel becomes upset asking why she thinks that's so special. Gabriel shows his ability, using telekinesis to throw Trevor up against the wall and pin him there. Elle pleads with Gabriel not to do anything harmful. When Gabriel refuses to let Trevor go, Elle blasts him with lightning. Gabriel asks Elle who she is, then throws her across the room. Gabriel yells for Elle to get out now, and then he begins to cut into Trevor's forehead to steal his ability. Elle rushes out to the van where HRG is. HRG is watching surveillance video with interest, saying Gabriel actually exposes their brain. We see Gabriel inside again, hands covered in blood. He rushes out the door of his apartment.

Angela continues to confront Arthur about his evil intentions. Arthur tries to justify what he's doing, but she refuses to be a party to the murder of her own son. All of a sudden, Arthur gasps, looking at the food they had been eating. Angela says she lied and it's not his mother's recipe. Arthur keels over on the floor. Angela instructs the Haitian to bring Arthur to Level 3 and say he's a "casualty of a field op". Just then, Nathan arrives home, and finds Arthur laying on the floor. He yells out and goes to check on him. Angela rushes in pretending to think he had a heart attack. Nathan says he's still breathing and phones 911.

Elle confronts HRG about how they could have saved Gabriel's soul. HRG tells her they follow orders since they're agents. HRG leaves in a taxi cab. Peter Petrelli exits the cab, being driven by Mohinder Suresh. HRG gets in and tells him to head to JFK.

Angela prepares to talk to Nathan about what happened. A doctor comes out and informs Nathan and Angela that Arthur died of a heart attack. Angela requests an immediate cremation. The doctor goes back into Arthur's hospital room and informs him "it's been done". Arthur continues using auto-mind suggestion and the doctor agrees to find another body for the cremation. The doctor tells Arthur he likely has permanent paralysis. At Arthur's funeral, Peter and Nathan discuss how great a man their father was. Angela tells them not to idolize him like a God, he was just a man. She mutters under her breath "a man who did things they'll never understand".

We finally flash back to Hiro in Africa. Hiro awakens from his dream state, and tells Ando "he's alive" and talks of warning Mrs. Petrelli, Meredith and the others. Ando tells Hiro to slow down. Just then a scream is heard in the distance. Hiro and Ando rush out to see the precog, Usutu, lying in a pool of blood, beheaded. The find his head around a bush, and just then Arthur Petrelli appears behind Hiro. Arthur remarks he knows Hiro's been dreaming about him. Arthur puts his hands on Hiro's head and Hiro begins to scream...To be continued.

Excellent recap. It just bothered me that they decided to make Flint connected to Claire. just seems so contrived. I discussed this a bit more in my blog:
