Season 3: Episode 12 - "Our Father"

The episode opens back in the past, with HRG meeting Kaito Nakamura outside near the greenhouse. Hiro and Claire, present day versions, watch from a nearby glass door as Kaito hands baby Claire to HRG to take under his care. Claire tries to ask Hiro what's going on but realizes he speaks no English. Just then, Kaito tells young Hiro to go see his mommy. Present day Hiro hears that his mother is present and rushes into another room to spy on her talking to his younger self. Claire follows along, not knowing what to do. The two peer out from behind a door to see what's going on.

In the room, Kaito warns young Hiro to take it easy because his mother is ill. Kaito talks to her in English so young Hiro won't understand what they say. Hiro's mother tells Kaito she is dying fast and thinks it will happen tonight. Hiro's mom says they must make arrangements for the catalyst before it's lost forever. Kaito says he will ask Noah to bring baby Claire back for the catalyst. Hiro's mother says she wanted to keep it in the family, but Kaito strongly disagrees. Just then Kaito walks out of the room. Young Hiro sees a dove/bird in its cage die suddenly. He takes it out of the cage and hands it to his mother. She heals the bird back to life before young Hiro and the present day heroes' eyes. Claire & Hiro both realize what they must do now. Claire says she must find the baby version of herself and make sure they can't inject it with the catalyst. She tells Hiro she'll be back tonight and takes off. Just then, Kaito walks in and thinks present day Hiro is their new chef, and orders him to get to work at once.

In Costa Verde, California, Sylar is still on the beach and receives a call from Arthur Petrelli asking where he is with Claire. Sylar says he won't be helping him anymore since Bennet told him the truth, that Arthur's not his father. Sylar informs Arthur he has a whole new list of numbers and info on heroes to go talk to now. Sylar looks at Elle's cell phone listings. Arthur urges Sylar to come see him, and Sylar says he will eventually. As Sylar hangs up, the camera pans to Elle's dead body laying beside Sylar. Sylar pours lighting fluid over her body then uses his new power of electricity to light her on fire.

At Primatech, Angela Petrelli talks with the Haitian and Peter. Angela instructs Peter to shoot Arthur once in the back of the head. Peter seems hesitant about it, but Angela reassures him that he would kill Peter if the tables were turned. Haitian says Arthur is far too powerful, so he will accompany Peter to help neutralize him. Peter picks up the gun.

Nathan arrives at Pinehearst to talk with Arthur, then sees Tracy Strauss in his office. Nathan tells Arthur he wants to completely take over Pinehearst to lead the way. Arthur tells Nathan that he made him. Nathan says he wouldn't have made him if he didn't need him. Tracy says Senator Petrelli has the authority and would make a better face for Pinehearst. Nathan confronts Tracy during briefing on Pinehearst. Tracy says she's on his side and was helping him secure this position. Knox and Flint are shown waiting in the hall. Tracy brings Nathan into a room full of Marine soldiers performing actions in unison.

Present day Claire arrives at the Bennet apartment 16 years ago. Sandra is trying to bring packages in along with the baby, Claire. Present day Claire rushes over to help her and introduces herself as Bonnie, a next door neighbor staying with the Monacos. Claire helps her inside and then helps her with the baby. Sandra thanks her for her help. Claire asks Sandra if her husband is any good with kids. Sandra says not really, he does a lot of work, but just received a promotion. Sandra says she's only known the baby a few hours and she loves her already. Sandra says she plans to watch the baby like a hawk.

At Sue Landers' office, present day, Sue is celebrating her birthday. Sue enters her office and a delivery man is there with a package. Sue has the ability to know if someone tells the truth or not and realizes the man is lying. Sylar uses his abilities to shut the door and fling Sue against a wall. He tells her not to panic, it won't hurt a bit, then says "Gotcha, that was a lie". Sylar kills Sue, leaving her on the floor just as 3 coworkers burst in yelling "Happy Birthday!" They see Sylar with his hands covered in blood and the door slams shut.

Nathan talks to one of the Marines regarding the experimental drug they will use on him. Nathan says it will change his life forever. The man tells Nathan he did 2 tours in Iraq, and on his last mission an RPG took out the Hum-V he was in. The man says 12 soldiers went in and only 2 came out. All of this prompted him to want to be more than human so he could save lives.

Daphne speeds Matt and Ando to a messenger office center in Manhattan. Ando exclaims he likes teleporting better as it's less windy. Parkman asks the man in charge for a receipt for Isaac Mendez' delivery last year. The man tries to play it off as he doesn't know, until Parkman reads into his thoughts and finds out he knows about Isaac's sketches. Parkman tells the man he knows he's been skimming off the top too. The man agrees to go get the sketches from a back room. As Parkman, Daphne and Ando are chatting, all of a sudden Parkman sees out a window that the man has taken off by bicycle with the sketch books. Daphne speeds off and gets in front of him in busy traffic. The man crashes into a taxi cab and flies over the car into the street. Daphne walks over to him to get the book.

Back 16 years ago, present day Hiro is trying to cook up Mrs. Nakamura's last meal at the Nakamura household. Kaito and Hiro's mother continue discussing giving the catalyst to Hiro. Kaito says Hiro is irresponsible and just likes comic books, but his mother interjects saying he's just a kid. Just then young Hiro comes over to present day Hiro and says "maybe he's right". Both Hiro's adjust their glasses and hang their heads in a depressed slump.

HRG arrives home to find a stranger watching their new baby. He asks who she is and Claire tells him the Monaco's niece. Sandra walks in and introduces her to HRG. HRG is suspicious and brings Sandra aside to chat. He walks back in and tells Claire the Monaco's don't have a niece. HRG demands that the girl tell him who she is and why she's there.

Claire tells HRG she's there to help protect the baby. Claire tells HRG she knows what he's thinking about being scared and not knowing if the Company will take the baby any minute. HRG asks if she's a mind reader. The phone starts to ring and Claire tells him not to answer it because it's the Company. Claire says they want to take the baby again for a minute to do something to it that will change it forever. Claire tells him that everything will be fine with he and "Claire bear". HRG doesn't answer the call and smiles responding "Claire bear huh?"

Sixteen years ago still, present Hiro brings a food tray to his mother. He tells her he didn't know how to make the meal so he made waffles. Hiro's mom said those are her son's favorite. She tells Hiro's she's not so hungry right now. She then notices something about him looks familiar and asks if they've met. Hiro tells her he is Hiro Nakamura and can travel through time and space. His mother remarks how great it is to see him all grown up and the two hug. Hiro tells her that someone stole his memories so he only believes he's 10 years old. Hiro says he saw that she can heal and asks her to restore his memories. Hiro's mother puts her hands on his head, kisses his forehead and after a moment, Hiro has his memories back.
Hiro tells his mother he remembers how much he misses her in the present day. Hiro's mother asks him to tell her all about his life. Hiro says in the future he and his father grew to love and respect each other. He asks his mother to give him the catalyst so he can protect it in the future. Hiro tells her he is strong enough to carry it and protect it. Hiro's mother agrees with him and touches his chest with her hand glowing, putting the catalyst inside of him. Hiro glows for a moment remarking that his mother showed him how to be a hero, right before his mother passes away next to him. Hiro weeps and bids his mother farewell.

Back to present day, The Haitian and Peter drive towards Pinehearst. Peter tells the Haitian if the eclipse had stayed it would leave everyone powerless. Haitian asks Peter to give him the gun so he can do the job instead of Arthur's own son. Peter says just like Haitian had to take care of his brother, this is his responsibility.

Sylar gets into an elevator still covered in blood. A businessman in a suit nervously eyes him as they ride in the elevator. Sylar asks the man if something's wrong. The man hesitates then says no, but Sylar's new ability causes his head to shake to indicate the man's lying. Sylar remarks how it "kind of tingles".

The bike messenger brings the sketch book to Matt, Daphne and Ando. The messenger said every fanboy of the comic has been trying to grab it and it made his life a living hell. As they open the comic its first page shows a distrought Hiro and says "Hiro Lost in Time". They begin to flip through the comic and next see Claire looking out from the rooftop in NYC. The scene shifts to Claire, sixteen years ago.

As Claire is looking out at the city during the night, Hiro arrives to talk to her. She realizes he can now speak English. Hiro says he has the catalyst now and tells her they can go home. Just then a voice says "looks like I arrived just in time". Arthur Petrelli is there and uses his powers to first fling Claire out of the way, then freeze Hiro then brings him closer to steal the catalyst and Hiro's powers. He flings Hiro out over the rooftop. Claire thinks Hiro's been killed. Arthur walks over to her and says to tell Angela he won and it's over. He sends Claire back to present day. As Arthur teleports away, Hiro begins yelling for help. The scene shows Hiro hanging onto a pole extending from the building, high above the street.

The scene shifts back to Ando, Daphne and Matt reading the comic to see Hiro stuck back in time with no powers. Daphne remarks that it might not be so bad since Arthur has the catalyst and the ability to give people powers. Ando exclaims that maybe he could get the power to go back in time and save Hiro, if they can get the formula.

At Pinehearst, the formula is shown in a large lab vile. Arthur enters the lab and shows Suresh, Tracy and Nathan what he can do. Arthur touches the formula with both hands and starts glowing. Arthur then asks Nathan, "ready to change the world?"

The Haitian and Peter walk into Pinehearst. A guard tries to stop them, but Peter pulls his gun and the Haitian puts a hand on the guard's head to subdue the man. Arthur is shown talking to Tracy, Suresh and Nathan, but then realizes that Peter has arrived. Nathan asks what's wrong, but Arthur tells him just a minor issue. Arthur instructs Nathan to call their first test Marine in, then Arthur leaves to confront Peter.

Peter pulls a gun on Arthur as he enters the room. Arthur tells him not to be silly and tries to use telekinesis to fling him aside. Arthur realizes his power doesn't work. The Haitian then appears and stands next to Peter. Arthur asks if Peter's there to kill him and Peter says he's there to stop him. Peter cocks the gun after Arthur says he doesn't think Peter has the nerve to kill him. Peter says "this ends now".

Nathan, Tracy and Suresh prepare to test the formula on their first marine. It's the marine Nathan talked to before who wanted to be even more of a hero. Suresh enters a sealed chamber to inject the marine, Scott with the newly revised formula. After several moments, Scott starts to shake and convulse in the chair he's strapped down to. Nathan asks what's going on and Suresh says he has no idea.

Meanwhile, the Haitian's hold on Arthur Petrelli starts to weaken. Haitian yells for Peter to shoot now, but Peter hesitates. Arthur tells Peter the formula's ready and he can have all his powers back. Suddenly, the Haitian breaks down as Peter fires the gun at Arthur. The bullet stops just short of Arthur's forehead. Sylar enters the room. Peter aims at him, but Sylar uses telekinesis to fling the gun out of his hand. Sylar then walks over to confront Arthur. Sylar says he wanted to be here, with family, then asks Arthur if he's really his father. Arthur tells Sylar yes, but Sylar's new ability causes his head to shake and tingle, indicating Arthur lied. Sylar looks at Peter and tells him he's no killer, then lets the bullet suspended in mid air fly into Arthur's forehead. Sylar tells Peter not to worry he won't kill him because he has nothing he needs. Sylar leaves the room and Peter tells Haitian to go after him. Just then Peter sees Arthur's body glow with bright light as if the power and catalyst have escaped from his body.

Back in the test room, the soldier continues to convulse, eventually breaking free of the straps in his chair. All of a sudden he calms down. Nathan asks how he feels. The man turns and calmly picks up his bolted-down chair, breaking it free from the ground then tosses it through the glass of his chamber. The chair flies all the way across the room and sticks into the wall. The man remarks "I feel good" with a grin. To be continued...
